The Koboldnest is a comprehensive online shop for 3D printing of wargaming, role-playing and model building supplies. With us you will find more than 10,000 miniatures, designed bases, terrain, design objects and tabletop accessories that you can't get in the store! We produce all printed models individually and to order and send them directly to you, so that transport routes are kept as short as possible and unnecessary overproduction is avoided.
What is 3D printing?
3D printing is an additive manufacturing process in which a material is applied layer by layer to create a coherent object. We use two different methods for this:
With MSLA printing, a liquid, light-reactive synthetic resin (resin) is exposed in extremely thin layers and turned into a highly detailed model. With a resolution of up to 19x24 micrometers horizontally and 30-50 micrometers vertically, the finished models consist of hundreds to thousands of layers that perfectly depict every little detail.
In FDM printing, a plastic is heated to over 200°C and applied to a surface layer by layer in a molten state through a fine nozzle. This process is used for particularly large or robust models, such as large terrain pieces. The layer heights here are between 120 and 200 micrometers, depending on the detail and model.
What kind of material do you use?
For resin printing we use high-quality, gray pigmented resin, which is particularly suitable for tabletop miniatures due to its robustness.
For FDM printing, we use different colored PLA (polylactide) based on plant starch (sugar cane, corn, etc.), which is biodegradable and made from renewable raw materials.
How big are your models?
The standard scale of our models is 1:56 (32mm eye height of an average person), but we also offer many models directly in 1:64 (28mm eye height) and other scales can also be selected in the shop depending on the product.
On each product page you will also see the dimensions of each model in millimeters, as well as a visual size reference on each product render, so there are no surprises with your order.
Can I order a model in a different size than offered in the shop?
We would be happy to adapt the models we offer to your ideas! Enlarging is actually always possible, and reducing it in most cases is also possible. Simply send us an email to info@koboldnest.de.
Do you also have pictures of printed miniatures?
All the colorful models that you can see on our site are printed and painted by us. Due to the large number of models that we offer in the shop, we almost exclusively show digital renders of the models on the product pages, as we cannot logistically print and photograph or even paint 10,000 models. However, on our social media channels you will find a colorful selection of the miniatures we print with and without painting.
Do you have a model of XYZ?
At any given time, we have hundreds to thousands of models available that have not yet made it into our online shop. If you're looking for something specific, just write to us and we'll see if we already have something suitable on our hard drives.
Do you offer custom printing?
Of course! If you have your own designs or models that you would like to have printed, simply contact us and we will make you an offer for printing with your desired ideas.
Would you like to support our tournament as a sponsor?
We are happy to support the community with non-cash prizes at tournaments or other events. Since we are not a large company, our production capacities for this are unfortunately limited. We currently have the opportunity to support around 8 events per year. Please contact us with your inquiry in good time (~6 weeks before the event would be perfect) so that we have the opportunity to integrate model production into our everyday work for sponsorship.
Do you also design yourself?
No. We specialize in the production of tabletop supplies and have no opportunity to realize designs and ideas ourselves.
Do you sell STL files?
No. The models we offer are largely subject to very specific rights and licenses. We own the rights to produce and distribute the models we offer, but have no ability to distribute the files in any form. For models published under a Creative Commons license, each product description includes a link to the website where the model can be downloaded free of charge.
